It holds its shape, keeps its colour through wash after wash, and moves with the body rather than against it. Originally rooted in Indonesian batik, Ankara was carried to West Africa through trade and claimed so completely that it became its own. Today it is worn for celebrations, for ceremonies, for ordinary days made extraordinary.
